In early 2017, Ryan Morici, drove by a vacant, neglected property with an old farmhouse and 1800s-era barn. Always interested in a project, Ryan decided to take a closer look. He thought he might renovate the house and resell it, but when he saw the inside of the barn, his plans quickly grew.

Though it had fallen into disrepair, the beauty of the high, arched ceiling and heavy wooden beams were undeniable. Restoring the barn became Ryan’s passion project.

In the 1960s, the barn had been converted to a stable, and it housed racehorses for 30 years. Ryan and his team removed the stalls that had been added and restored the barn’s original structure using period-correct, hand-hewn wood.

When the barn renovation was complete, Ryan decided to turn the property into Washington Township’s first organic produce farm. Ryan is the owner of Heritage Oaks, a landscape design and construction company that has been serving the Macomb, Oakland and Wayne County areas for over 20 years. Starting an organic farm seemed like the perfect way to further enrich those communities, an opportunity to serve them in a brand new way.

In 2021, Raven Oaks Farm opened doors to the public and began offering a variety of organic, heirloom produce, and it has continued to do so ever since.

The Crew

This season, Alyssa and Meg will be joining the team and running daily operations at the farm. They share a passion for organic growing, seasonal eating, connecting communities, and playing country music over the greenhouse speakers as often as possible.

  • FARM MANAGER

Excited to jump into her sixth season of organic farming, Alyssa brings an extensive knowledge of holistic health and natural medicine to her work on the farm. She holds a certificate in integrative nutrition and is passionate about helping people pursue health using clean, nourishing, whole foods. When she’s not at work, you can find her boating on Lake St. Clair or hosting a bonfire for family and friends.

  • FARM MANAGER

With a background in photography, journalism, and graphic design, Meg jumped into farming in 2020, not knowing quite what to expect. It didn’t take her long to realize she had stumbled upon a new passion. Farming was the perfect intersection of her love for the outdoors, her interest in natural health, and her heart for the community. When she’s not farming, you can find her rock climbing, running, or planning her next road trip.
